Samsareva, Penka. Derivation of Nouns of Action (أَسْمَاءُ الحَدَثِ – Nomina Actionis) In Arabic. – In: Manas: East–West: Languages, Cultures, Societies, Vol. 3, 1, 2017.
The present paper deals with the formation of nomina actionis in Arabic. The derivatives denote an abstract action (state), not connected with a specific doer or time. They differ from nomina actionis with an infinitival meaning (analogous to "deverbal nouns" in Bulgarian), traditionally attributed to the category "masdar" /المصدر /, and in particular to the so-called "intensifying masdar" (المصدر التأكيدي), which belong to the paradigm of the verb and are part of its non-finite forms. The study is based on an onomasiological approach, and the analysis of the derivatives is performed within the framework of the derivational type. The basic models of word formation are affixation (predominantly transfixation and occasionally suffixation), and functional transposition. The motivating words are verbs and nomina actionis of the infinitival type, as well as nouns. The derivational field can be divided into five subfields.
