Peen, Yordan. A Biography of the Prophet Muhammad, Presented to Children and Teenagers in Bulgaria at the End of the 19th Century. – In: Manas: East–West: Languages, Cultures, Societies, Vol. 3, 1, 2017.
This article examines the biography of the prophet Muhammad published in 1892 in the youth-oriented journal Izvor. The text is based on contemporary European publications on the subject. We observe a friendly attitude and a tendency to make the epoch in which the Prophet lived understandable to Christians, without taking a negative stance towards his preaching and deeds. Thus, only fourteen years after Bulgaria’s liberation from Ottoman domination, the reader receives a message of respect, tolerance, and mutual understanding with the followers of Islam.
