Kenderova, Stoyanka. The Qur’ān And The Qur’ānic Literature In The Library Of ʽOsmān Pazvāntoğlu In Vidin (1252/1837). – In: Manas: The Arab World and Islam in Cultural-Historical Perspective, Vol. 3, 2, 2017.
The library of ʽOsmān Pazvāntoğlu (1758–1807) is considered the largest library founded in Bulgaria during the Ottoman period. Thanks to its original Catalogue created in 1252/1837, we have an idea about its fund at that moment. The Catalogue contains 2278 descriptions of altogether 2405 volumes of manuscripts and old printed books covering 22 subjects. Among them the number of copies of the Qur’ān and manuscript books in the field of the Qur’ānic sciences (tafsīr, ḳirāʼāt and tajwīd) is 233 volumes, with the number of works being about 150. The Catalogue certifies that the most famous authors and their works fill up the shelves of the library: al-Bayḍāwī, Abū Layt as-Samarḳandī, aṭ-Ṭabarī, az-Zamaḫsharī, Abū Ḥayyān, Muḥammad al-Jazarī, as-Suyūṭī and many others.
